Medication Training is a Big Deal

Medication errors, such as providing the wrong medication, administering the wrong dose, and failing to identify adverse reactions occur more frequently in assisted living environments than in any other healthcare setting.

FDA studies show that medication errors injure about 1.3 million people in the United States each year and cause the death of 7,0001 . Safe medication administration is essential in long-term care environments, and caregivers need to have knowledge and skill in the techniques of administering medications because the caregiver administering the medication is the last line of defense to protect a resident against a medication error. Safe medication administration requires proper training, supervision, and careful attention to detail.
